15 years ago, we used a program that had visual color indicators (per my suggestions). We could ‘sort’ by belt color (ascending White – Black, descending Highest Rank Black -White). This was a very useful tool for retention when coupled with the visual indicator for student ranking (A student was a green dot next to their name, B was yellow, C was red). We used it for when our program director to wait until a class started (ex: beginner class W-G). After the class started, they could sort by belt – then glance at the C student ratings to see if they were in class (of course, if not, they would receive a call immediately).
Color belt icons were also put on testing forms (making confirmation of ranks easier prior to testing).
Special classes can also be created for ‘trouble belts.’ For example, if you are noticing that Blue belts seem to be the most common “C” students (trending for a couple of testing cycles). It may be the right time to have a special training class for these students immediately after testing to either a) motivate them, or b) have them be more comfortable with the harder material they are learning
Nice..
There are some issues with the “infinite” permutations of colors and stripes etc….but definitely something to consider!
Let’s see how much traction it gets here as well.
Thanks for the feedback!
